China Jiangxi Corporation (CJIC) says its only working on Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) and not Ndola.

This is contrary to some media reports suggesting that media that CJIC is working on both KKIA and Ndola International Airports.

CJIC Communications and Public Relations Manager Misheck Wangwe said CJIC is awarded to do the Lusaka Airport now called KKIA.

Mr Wangwe said the contract to do works at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe formerly Ndola Airport was awarded to another Chinese Contractor.

In terms of works at KKIA, he said massive progress had made so far.

“The outlook of the structures speaks volumes of this fact. Our works on this project are strictly monitored by a team of independent competent engineers appointed by the client. Therefore, allegations of substandard works on this project are unfounded, false and malicious. All the works carried out so far are of high quality. The completion date on this project is next year (October 2019). So far, 75 percent of the works have been done and we will hand it over to our client on time.

“We want to assure members of the public and all stakeholders that China Jiangxi Corporation is a reputable company that has been in Zambia since 1987 and has successfully completed more than 100 highly qualified projects and will continue to do so in partnership with the Zambian government and all stakeholders as a trusted and internationally acclaimed construction company,” he said.

He said CJIC is putting up a world standard airport terminal and runway in accordance with the specifications of the client who in this case is the Zambia Airports Cooperation and the government through the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure.

Avic International is another Chinese firm awarded to do modernisation and facelift of Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Airport in Ndola.
